I have been told many times by our customers that they feel a sense of comfort when they walk through the door of Katydids. Located in Historic Downtown Waukesha, Katydids is an extension of my home as well as a gift from God.
I have always had a love for entertaining, a passion for creating beautiful living spaces and an appreciation for God’s gift of nature. While a stay-at-home mom for my two sons, I discovered that I had a talent in arranging flowers. This talent soon grew into a home-based business.
I had always dreamed of having a shop of my own where I could be surrounded with beautiful things as well as make people happy. My husband and children supported this dream of mine; all the while knowing that it would change our lives. I took many months to search my soul and to ask God to lead me down the path that He had planned for me.
While having many conversations about all of the ideas surrounding this potential new shop, the name Katydids popped into my head. Many people have shared with me the compliments that they have received from guests in their homes regarding their floral arrangements, asking who made that? Their reply was always “Katie did”.
While taking a walk with a friend on a beautiful autumn day, I was sharing with her how I desperately wanted to follow my dream of opening a shop. I shared with her how I have spent months asking for God’s direction, but feeling that He had not heard my prayers ( I do not have much patience). At that moment, she stopped walking, bent down to the sidewalk and asked me “what is that”? I replied by saying “that’s a Katydid”.
On September 17th, 2002 I received the answer that I was hoping God would give me. He has blessed me with many wonderful talents and the love of making people happy.
I invite you to come and experience Katydids. My staff and I will welcome you as though you were a guest in our own homes. While you are visiting us, allow yourself to become wrapped in the comfort and beauty that surrounds you.
